How often should I change my oil?

Short answer:Labor Only Auto Repair recommends 5,000-7,500 miles for most modern vehicles on full synthetic; severe-service and older vehicles closer to 3,000-5,000.

The right oil change interval depends on the oil grade your manufacturer specifies, whether you're running conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic, and how the vehicle is driven. Most modern engines using full synthetic 0W-20 or 5W-30 are engineered for 5,000-7,500 mile intervals under normal driving.

Severe-service driving — lots of short trips under 10 miles, extended idling, towing, dusty conditions, or extreme heat (hello, Central Texas summers) — cuts that interval closer to 3,000-5,000 miles. If you tow a trailer, commute in stop-and-go, or drive a work truck, err on the shorter side.

We always follow the manufacturer's recommended oil weight and specification (dexos, API, ACEA, etc.) rather than defaulting to whatever's cheapest. Using the wrong oil can void warranties and, on some modern engines, cause real damage.
