Frequently asked

Car Electrical Repair questions

Why did my power window stop working?+

A power window that quits is most often a failed regulator or motor — the plastic guides and nylon gears inside the regulator are common wear items on most modern doors. It can also be a worn switch contact or, very commonly on older vehicles, broken wires inside the rubber boot that flexes between the door and the body each time it opens. We probe the circuit at the motor and the switch to confirm exactly which component has failed, so you're not paying to replace a perfectly good regulator.

Can you fix a short in my wiring?+

Yes — short-circuit diagnosis is one of the most technique-dependent jobs in modern repair, and we approach it methodically. Using factory wiring diagrams, a digital multimeter, and a low-amp current probe, we isolate the affected circuit, narrow the fault to a specific harness section, and then repair the wire or replace the segment using proper solder-and-seal or OE-style connectors. We never tap, twist, or use crimp "butt" connectors on body harnesses because they fail again within a year or two.

How long does electrical repair take?+

Straightforward repairs such as a window motor, door lock actuator, or single switch replacement typically take 1–2 hours. Tracing intermittent shorts, parasitic battery drains, or CAN-bus network faults can take several hours because the technician has to recreate the fault condition while measuring multiple circuits at once. We give you an initial diagnostic estimate and check in before exceeding it, so cost stays predictable even on complex jobs.
