Frequently asked

Tune Ups questions

How often does my car need a tune-up?+

Most modern vehicles run iridium or platinum spark plugs that are designed to last 60,000–100,000 miles, with some long-life plugs stretching even further. Ignition coils, air and fuel filters, throttle body cleaning, and induction service are performed based on actual condition rather than a fixed schedule. We inspect each item and recommend only what's actually due, so a "tune-up" on a well-maintained car is often much smaller than the all-inclusive package some shops still sell.

Will a tune-up fix my check engine light?+

If the check engine light is on for ignition-related misfires, fouled plugs, weak coils, or some lean-condition codes, then yes — a proper tune-up often resolves the light. If the code is for something else (oxygen sensor, EVAP, transmission, emissions hardware), a tune-up won't fix it, and we'll diagnose and quote the actual repair separately. We always pull codes before recommending a tune-up so you're not paying for the wrong service.

How much does a tune-up cost?+

A basic tune-up — typically a set of plugs, an air filter, and inspection of related components — starts around $200–$400 on most four-cylinder engines. V6 and V8 engines, especially those with hard-to-reach rear bank plugs (transverse V6 layouts, many trucks with intake manifold removal, etc.) can run $500–$900 because of the labor involved. We always confirm the parts and labor in writing before starting, so the price you authorize is the price you pay.
