Frequently asked

Fluid Exchanges questions

Is a transmission flush safe?+

Yes, when done correctly with the right equipment and the right fluid. We perform fluid exchanges using the manufacturer-approved method for your specific transmission — typically a thermal exchange on modern automatics — and we never pressure-flush a high-mileage transmission, since that can dislodge debris and cause shifting problems. Always using the correct fluid spec (Dexron, Mercon LV, ATF+4, WS, etc.) is non-negotiable for transmission health.

How often should fluids be exchanged?+

Typical intervals are 30,000–60,000 miles for transmission fluid, 30,000–50,000 miles for engine coolant, every 2–3 years for brake fluid (regardless of mileage, because moisture absorption is time-based), and 30,000–60,000 miles for differential and transfer case fluids. Severe-duty conditions — towing, dusty roads, stop-and-go driving — shorten all of these. We test fluid condition rather than guessing from mileage alone, so you don't pay for service that isn't due yet.

Can I just top off fluids instead of exchanging?+

Topping off restores the correct fluid level, but it doesn't remove the contamination, oxidation byproducts, or worn additives that build up in the original fluid over time. A proper exchange replaces most of the old fluid with fresh fluid, restoring viscosity, friction modifiers, and corrosion inhibitors to factory specification. For transmissions especially, fresh fluid extends component life dramatically; topped-off old fluid does not.
