Auto repair near Brushy Creek.
Brushy Creek winds through Hutto and the surrounding Williamson County communities, flowing east toward the San Gabriel River and feeding a popular regional trail and parks system.

What makes it special
Brushy Creek originates in the springs of northwest Austin near Cedar Park and runs roughly 65 miles east before joining the San Gabriel River near Circleville. Along the way it cuts through some of the most-loved parkland in the region — Brushy Creek Lake Park in Cedar Park, the regional trail in Round Rock, and the open greenbelt that threads through Hutto.
The creek played a real role in Hutto's history. The 1915 circus-train story that gave the town its hippo mascot supposedly ended with the runaway hippo cooling off in Cottonwood Creek, a Brushy Creek tributary. Long before that, the creek bottoms were a favorite camp for settlers and ranchers because of the reliable water and the cluster of pecan and cypress trees along the banks.
Today the creek is mostly a recreation corridor — trail running, fishing, geocaching, and after a good rain, a popular spot for kids to splash around on the limestone shelves.
