Auto repair near Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood).
Fort Cavazos — renamed from Fort Hood in May 2023 — is one of the largest active-duty armored military installations in the world, covering more than 214,000 acres in Bell and Coryell counties.

What makes it special
Fort Hood was established in 1942 to train tank destroyer units for World War II and grew, over eight decades, into the largest active-duty armored post in the U.S. military. In May 2023 the installation was officially renamed Fort Cavazos in honor of Gen. Richard E. Cavazos — a native Texan, Korean War Distinguished Service Cross recipient, and the first Hispanic four-star general in U.S. Army history.
The post covers more than 214,000 acres of Central Texas prairie and brush across Bell and Coryell counties. It's home to III Armored Corps, the 1st Cavalry Division, the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, and a long list of supporting commands. Roughly 36,000 active-duty soldiers and their families live and work on or near the post.
The economic and cultural footprint extends well beyond the gate. Almost every Killeen-area business has military customers, and our shop is no exception — we work on a lot of soldiers' personal vehicles, especially around PCS season.
