Auto repair near Lost Pines.
The Lost Pines is a 70-square-mile loblolly pine forest in Bastrop County, geographically isolated by about 100 miles from the main East Texas pine belt — a unique Texas ecoregion.

What makes it special
The Lost Pines is exactly what its name suggests: a stand of loblolly pines that exists about 100 miles west of the main East Texas Piney Woods, isolated from any other natural pine population. Botanists believe it's a relict population — a forest that survived the last Ice Age and never reconnected with its eastern cousins when the climate shifted.
The forest covers roughly 70 square miles centered on Bastrop County, including Bastrop State Park, Buescher State Park, McKinney Roughs Nature Park, and most of the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort property. Wildlife is similarly distinct — the Houston toad, an endangered species, has one of its strongest populations here.
The 2011 Bastrop County Complex Fire was a major blow, burning a significant portion of the Lost Pines and triggering a long-term reforestation effort by Texas Parks & Wildlife, volunteers, and a coalition of nonprofits. The recovery is visible today — young pines are reclaiming the burn scars and the forest is slowly knitting itself back together.
