Mueller is a 700-acre mixed-use redevelopment on the site of Austin's former Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, featuring walkable neighborhoods, a town center, and Dell Children's Medical Center.
What makes it special
Mueller is one of the most successful airport-to-neighborhood conversions in the country. Robert Mueller Municipal Airport served as Austin's main airport from 1930 until 1999, when commercial service moved to the current Austin-Bergstrom location. The 700-acre site sat largely idle for several years before being master-planned as a mixed-use neighborhood.
Today Mueller includes more than 6,000 homes, 14 acres of central park, more than 140 acres of total parks and open space, a town center with restaurants and a Saturday farmers market, the Alamo Drafthouse Mueller, the Thinkery children's museum, an HEB grocery anchor, and Dell Children's Medical Center as its major institutional tenant.
It's a five-minute drive from downtown Austin and a model for how to do dense, walkable, mixed-income redevelopment in a Texas context — and it's pulled a lot of Hutto-area customers into our shop who moved out of east Austin but still trust us with their cars.
